Who Is Afrikan? Reclaiming the Truth Marcus Garvey Taught Us

Afrikan Black identity is not a debate — it is the foundation of our liberation. Nana Marcus Garvey understood this with absolute clarity. He built the largest mass movement in Afrikan history on one unshakeable truth: Afrikan people are Black people. Furthermore, that truth is under direct attack today. As a result, our entire liberation project is at stake.
Right now, a calculated effort is underway to replace authentic Pan-Afrikanism with anti-Black continentalism. This counterfeit ideology grants membership in “Afrika” based on geography alone. Consequently, arab occupiers of stolen Afrikan land gain power and legitimacy. Meanwhile, Black people — the true heirs of the continent — get pushed to the margins. Most importantly, this is not theoretical. Haiti has been blocked from full African Union membership. Morocco, where indigenous Afrikan=Black people remain enslaved, sits comfortably inside that same body. This contradiction demands our full attention.
Why Afrikan=Black Identity Must Define Pan-Afrikan Organizing Today
Ɔbenfo Ọbádélé Bakari Kambon confronts this betrayal directly in his landmark lecture. He traces Nana Garvey’s conceptual framework and shows why it remains the gold standard for liberation organizing. In addition, he exposes how watered-down definitions of “Afrikan” actively disenfranchise Black people worldwide. However, this is not simply a historical analysis. Ɔbenfo Kambon arms us with the conceptual tools we need right now. His scholarship cuts through the confusion with precision and purpose.
Every Kmtyw scholar, student, parent, and community builder needs this presentation. Abibifahodie — Black liberation — depends on clarity about who we are and who we are not. Therefore, we cannot afford vague, feel-good definitions that erase our people. Nana Garvey never compromised on this. Neither should we. This lecture is available now through Abibitumi, the Pan-Afrikan education platform built specifically for our liberation. Watch it, study it, and share it with your community.
